Native Landscape Theme
Native Landscaping also known as Natural Landscaping uses colorful native plants, ornamentals, or a combination of the two to create a natural landscape that manages rainwater while beautifying your yard.
Native plants have deep growing root systems that help break up the soil, allowing more water to drain into the ground.
Landscaping with native plants helps promote a healthy natural landscape that creates a habitat for local birds, bees, and butterflies. By installing native plants and ornamentals, you can have a beautiful landscape while mowing less.
Native landscaping is a simple way to reincorporate native grasses, flowers, shrubs, and trees into the landscape. Native forbs, or flowers, bloom throughout the season and attract butterflies and hummingbirds. Hardy native grasses provide golden color for fall and winter appeal. Once established, natives are easy to maintain.
A successful design will have purposely placed plant and hardscape materials, following the basic principles of design. Material choices can include hardy plants, weathered, mossy boulders, and rustic stone. While nature is not rigid, it is not completely random either. Organic shapes (beds or plants), plant massing, and softer, asymmetrical arrangements, are some of the major considerations when designing in this style. They also resist local pests and disease as well as reduce soil erosion.
